SIRA Psychologist Coverage by NSW Region
Summary: The workerscomppsychologist.com.au directory lists 40 practitioners who accept NSW workers compensation (icare/SIRA) claims. Western Sydney (Parramatta and surrounds) accounts for 11 of these -- the highest concentration by region. Far Western Sydney (Penrith, Blacktown, Blue Mountains corridor) has no practitioners listed in this directory. The Riverina, Illawarra, and Northern Beaches each have one listed practitioner. Five practitioners are listed as telehealth-only with no fixed suburb, and can serve workers anywhere in NSW.
Data note: ABS population denominators are not included in this version -- practitioner counts only, sourced from the workerscomppsychologist.com.au directory as of July 2026. This directory does not claim to be an exhaustive list of all SIRA-approved psychologists in NSW. The authoritative source for SIRA provider numbers is the SIRA provider register on sira.nsw.gov.au. Coverage gaps described below are illustrative based on directory listings -- they are not epidemiological estimates.

1. Listed SIRA psychologists by NSW region
The table below tallies practitioners from the workers comp psychologist directory by NSW region, based on the suburb field in each listing. Practitioners whose suburb is recorded as "Sydney (telehealth)" have no fixed physical office listed and are counted separately as statewide telehealth providers. All other practitioners are grouped by the suburb or area they serve.
The "Telehealth noted" column indicates whether the practitioner's listing explicitly mentions telehealth availability in the directory data. Many practitioners who are not marked "Yes" may also offer telehealth but have not stated this explicitly in their directory entry -- this column reflects only what is recorded in the directory, not a comprehensive telehealth survey.
| Region | Suburbs included in data | Listed practitioners | Telehealth noted in data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Western Sydney | Parramatta, Lidcombe | 11 | Yes (1 of 11) |
| Statewide Telehealth | No fixed suburb -- NSW-wide | 5 | Yes (all 5) |
| Northern Sydney / North Shore | Chatswood, Killara, Kirribilli | 4 | Not specified |
| Central Coast | Erina | 3 | Yes (all 3) |
| Inner West Sydney | Leichhardt, Burwood, Croydon | 3 | Yes (1 of 3) |
| St George / South Sydney | Hurstville | 3 | Not specified |
| Eastern Suburbs | Bondi Junction, Waverley, Kensington | 3 | Not specified |
| Ryde / Inner North-West | Ryde | 2 | Yes (1 of 2) |
| Sydney CBD / Inner City | Sydney CBD, Surry Hills | 2 | Yes (1 of 2) |
| Northern Beaches | Brookvale | 1 | Not specified |
| Hills District / North-West Sydney | Cherrybrook | 1 | Not specified |
| Illawarra / Wollongong | Wollongong | 1 | Yes |
| Riverina / Regional NSW | Wagga Wagga | 1 | Yes |
| Total | 13 regions | 40 |

2. Coverage gaps: which regions have fewer listed practitioners
Based on this directory count alone, several NSW regions and corridors have notably fewer listed practitioners relative to their geographic size:
Far Western Sydney: no practitioners listed
The Penrith, Blacktown, and Blue Mountains corridor -- a large, densely populated outer-western belt -- has no practitioners listed in this directory. This directory's Western Sydney concentration (11 practitioners) is located at Parramatta and Lidcombe, which sit at the eastern edge of Greater Western Sydney. Workers based further west in this corridor have no in-person match in the directory, though they can access any of the five statewide telehealth providers or the Parramatta-based practitioners via telehealth where that option is offered.
Regional NSW: sparse coverage outside the Central Coast
Of the areas outside Greater Sydney, only two regions are represented in this directory: Wollongong (Illawarra, 1 practitioner) and Wagga Wagga (Riverina, 1 practitioner). The Central Coast (Erina, 3 practitioners) is the best-represented regional area. Large regional centres such as Newcastle/Hunter Valley, the Mid-North Coast (Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour), and the Far West are not represented in this directory at all. Workers in these areas have access to the five statewide telehealth providers, and the Central Coast and Illawarra telehealth-listed practitioners may also serve workers remotely in surrounding areas.
Northern Beaches and Hills District: single practitioners
The Northern Beaches (represented by Brookvale) and the Hills District / North-West Sydney (represented by Cherrybrook) each have one listed practitioner. These are large suburban areas with significant working populations. In both cases, the single listed practitioner does not have telehealth explicitly noted in the directory data, though this does not preclude telehealth availability -- workers should contact the practice directly to confirm.
3. What this means for workers and researchers
This coverage data is relevant to:
- Workers seeking a SIRA psychologist. If you are in a region with few or no listed practitioners, telehealth is the most practical option. Five statewide telehealth practitioners in this directory can serve workers anywhere in NSW without a fixed-location requirement. Workers can also use the SIRA provider register to find additional approved providers not listed in this directory.
- Researchers and policy observers. This directory count is the first region-by-region tally of SIRA-approved psychologists published from a single NSW-focused directory. It covers 40 practitioners across 13 regions. It is not a comprehensive survey of all SIRA-approved psychologists in NSW -- SIRA's own provider register is the authoritative source for that -- but it provides a directional snapshot of where listed providers are concentrated.
- Practitioners considering listing. The data shows that several regions -- particularly the Northern Beaches, Hills District, and Far Western Sydney corridor -- are not represented in this directory. Registered psychologists who accept workers compensation claims and practise in these areas can claim a free listing.

4. Methodology and data limitations
- Source: All counts are drawn directly from the workerscomppsychologist.com.au directory as of July 2026. The suburb field in each listing was used to assign practitioners to regions.
- Region assignment: Regions were assigned based on the suburb recorded in the listing. Where a suburb straddles multiple regional designations (e.g. Lidcombe, which sits near the Parramatta/Auburn boundary), the practitioner was grouped with the most commonly associated region.
- No population denominators: ABS population figures are not used in this analysis. Statements about coverage gaps refer only to the count of listed practitioners -- they do not represent practitioner-to-population ratios. A region appearing in this data with one listed practitioner may have many additional SIRA-approved practitioners not yet listed here.
- Telehealth column limitations: The "Telehealth noted" column reflects only explicit statements in directory listings. Practitioners not marked "Yes" may also offer telehealth but have not stated this in their listing.
- SIRA status: 37 of the 40 listed practitioners have confirmed SIRA provider status in this directory. The remaining 3 are listed as accepting workers compensation but with a note to confirm billing arrangements with the practice. All 40 practitioners hold current AHPRA registration.
- Update frequency: This page will be updated when the directory adds or removes practitioners. The counts above reflect a single point-in-time snapshot.
